Download Speed.
Current satellite Internet connectivity is delivered via Ku-band satellites (same satellites that deliver satellite television) which have a very robust capacity for sending information downstream (from the satellite to your home or office). Our subscriber download speeds are up to 700 Kbps with the Star 100 package, and range up to 2Mbps with our fastest connection plan, the Star 500 package. All plans provide speed levels that enable incredibly fast Internet page loads and the ability to access streaming media at the highest quality levels available on all major multimedia sites.

Speed will fluctuate somewhat due to the fact that satellite Internet services, like many broadband services, are on a shared network and thus actual speeds experienced by an individual user are impacted by the overall network traffic at a given time. During peak-usage periods, such as when kids get home from school, actual speeds may be significantly lower than max burstable speeds on occasion.

Upload Speed.
High-speed satellite, like almost all broadband technologies, has download speeds that are faster than upload speeds. The Star 100 connection plan provides upload speeds up to 128 kbps, or approximately 6x faster than most rural telephone dial-up connections. Our fastest plan, the Star 500, delivers maximum upload speeds at up to 1 Mbps, or about 50x faster than typical rural dial-up. These speeds are substantially faster than satellite speeds have been in the past and are great for uploading pictures or sending large attachments to an email. As with downloads, the actual speed experienced will fluctuate somewhat due to the shared network structure. During peak-usage periods, actual speeds typically will be approximately 70% to 85% of stated speeds.
