|
CHICAGO, Aug.
13, 2001 Agristar Global Networks, Ltd., a two-way broadband
satellite communications firm, today announced the acquisition of
DirectAg.com, Inc., a leading U.S. agricultural e-commerce company
based in St. Paul, MN.
DirectAg has been at the forefront in helping shape the future
of e-commerce in agriculture, said Cliff Ganschow, Chairman
of Agristar Global Networks. By integrating DirectAgs advanced technology
and experience into Agristar Global Networks' two-way broadband satellite network,
we are further assembling a premier communications organization that
will be much more than the sum of its parts. Ganschow said Agristar
is in discussions with other leading independent Internet sites, as
well as major agricultural input suppliers, food processors, content
providers and financial institutions regarding various financial and
working alliances.
DirectAg is very enthusiastic about becoming involved with Agristar,
said Kip Pendleton, founder and CEO of DirectAg. We share a
common vision of meeting the electronic information and business needs
of todays producers, manufacturers, dealers and related agribusiness
entities. DirectAg was formed two years ago to combine the best
of the agricultural retail world with the best in e-business technology,
he said, and has grown to become one of the most widely recognized
sites in U.S. agriculture. Pendleton will be a member of the board
of directors of Agristar Global Networks.
Agristar will incorporate DirectAgs headquarters facility, personnel,
market relationships, and technology systems into its U.S. online
agribusiness operations. DirectAgs state-of-the-art systems
include the ATG Dynamo 5.0 web site architecture, one of the industrys
most sophisticated and personalized user technology platforms. DirectAg
will continue to expand its core animal health marketing and communications
efforts to support the industrys primary animal health channel
participants. Additional Agristar channels are planned for premium
agricultural news, farm management services, agri-finance, land investment,
value-enhanced commodity aggregation, distance learning and a variety
of input supply areas. Major agribusinesses and their dealers and
distributors, as well as processors and food companies, also will
be able to communicate directly with top farm operators through dedicated
private channels.
